A 1-year-old elephant mistakenly left his mother side at the Norman Carr in Zambia, and 14 lions quickly pounced at their opportunity and attacked.

Now we wouldn’t want to spoil the incredible events that unfold in the footage. At this stage, you could scroll to the foot of this article and watch the video, or read on if your nerves can’t handle it.

Somehow, this story avoids an unhappy ending, well that’s a bonus since we are called Happiest after all.

The lions were unable to take the elephant down, even as they clung to his back, and he was able to get away.

The whole thing was caught on video by a group Norman Carr region, there is a dramatic point at which he nearly goes down but ultimately he manages to pull through and escapes into the water.

“In all the the 30-plus years I have been a safari guide in Zambia I have never have I seen anything like this,”

Said the guide who drove the group to the site.

“We were all so worried the baby elephant would be killed right before us.”

Instead, he ended up reuniting with his herd, and the guide notes that his new nickname is now — “Hercules.”
