This video of a woman taking her first breaths, thanks to a successful lung transplant, will leave you appreciating every breath you take today.
There are some things that we take for granted – being able to walk, see, hear, breathe. These are basic aspects of being human that we just expect and don’t really think about their importance. But when they are stripped away, we realise just how lucky we were to be able to do those things.
For Jennifer, she had been born with cystic fibrosis, so every breath she had taken in her life was a struggle. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that affects the body, creating a build up of mucus in the lungs, digestive system and organs. People with cystic fibrosis are prone to infections and are often hospitalised with complications.
Jennifer’s fiance, Rob Ronnenberg, captured the special moment on film as the breathing tube is removed from her nose and Jennifer takes a breath for the first time. It is hard not to feel emotional. This is clearly a huge moment in her life and a day that she probably never thought would come.
Seeing Jennifer’s face when she takes her first unobstructed breath, for the first time in her life, is just magical. The wonderment and relief on her face is enough to make your heart swell with happiness.
This video is a wonderful reminder of how organ donation can have such a positive impact on other people’s lives. Rob has shared the footage in the hopes of raising awareness of organ donation and encourages people to share this incredible moment.
…there are people whose lives depend on the generous gift of sharing your organs after you no longer have a need for them. Be a real life hero and let your family know that you will be a donor.
