Being a child can be tough and school can be a battleground. Unfortunately, for a lot of kids, being bullied at school is a normal part of life. Kids can use anything to do with your physical appearance or personality against you.
Naturally, looking different to everybody else at school can be an extra tough challenge. As you can imagine, it can’t be easy being a young girl at school and being bald. Thankfully, there are some people in the world who want to make life easier for some of these children.
Wigs For Kids is an Ohio-based charity that specialises in donating wigs to children who have lost their hair.
The non-profit organisation was started over 30 years ago by certified cosmetic therapist Jeffrey Paul. Even after 3 decades, it still continues to bring joy to the kids they’ve helped along the way.
When Children lose their hair, whether as a result of medical treatments, health conditions, or burn accidents, they don’t just suffer physically. The change in their appearance can drastically undermine their self-image and sabotage their self-esteem.
The organisation relies on hair donations to create beautiful and natural wigs. To encourage more people to donate, Wigs For Kids shares videos of their very grateful recipients trying on their new hair for the first time.
One lucky recipient was Taylor. She may have lost all of her hair, but she didn’t lose any of her charming personality.
Taylor is beaming from ear to ear when she receives the package before she giddily squeals “My wig!” with utter delight. As soon as she takes it out of the packet you can hear her say “it’s so beautiful”.
Taylor excitedly pulls the luscious shoulder-length brown wig out of the bag and holds it to her cheek. “This is beyond what I thought it would be.”
I have hair! Oh my gosh, I have hair! No one’s gonna recognize me!
You can see the excitement in her eyes and she completely lights up when she tries on her wig for the very first time.
