With central Portugal currently experiencing one of it’s biggest disasters in recent history, 1700 brave firefighters are doing everything in their power to stop a number of huge forest fires, which so far have tragically killed 60 people.

An image has recently surfaced the internet and gone viral which really shows how tough and tiring their job can be, especially during hard times like these.

64 people have died with over 50 injured, and this figure is expected to rise. I think it’s safe to say that these numbers would be much higher is it wasn’t for the firefighter’s heroic efforts.

The image which has been shared widely over the past few days shows 13 exhausted firefighters taking a well-earned break on a lawn; you can certainly see why the image has received so much attention.

The Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Costa was quick to show his appreciation to the firefighters saying:

The firemen have done everything they can. Several of them have been seriously injured

The image was uploaded to Facebook by Pedro Bras, one of the Firefighters tackling the tragic blazes. The image perfectly captures the environment which himself and his colleagues are working under.

Along with the image, he stated that “After a full day and a whole night’s work, we took a rest and rested for 25 minutes by the river, you can see that the air is dense with smoke”

To all the brave and courageous firefighters out there, we salute you and the amazing work you do to keep us safe.

Please share to show your appreciation for the heroes that are willing to risk their own life, in order to save others!?
