If you were to name two animals that live in harmony together, I’m sure most of you wouldn’t think to put elephants and dogs together. Not because they’re natural enemies, but because you wouldn’t expect to see dogs and elephants living in the same habitat.
Most people would assume that an elephant would be made to feel uneasy around a barking dog. For most parts, elephants are incredibly peaceful creatures so a dog’s erratic behaviour could unnerve them.
But why do these dogs and elephants live together so peacefully?
The friendship between these two opposing creatures is all very normal at the Elephant Nature Park. Most herds will have a pack of mahout dogs who will follow them around the land. The elephants don’t seem to mind the extra company, to be honest.
The dogs aren’t intimidated by the size of the elephants’ size either, they seem quite relaxed in their surroundings.
Who can blame them? They’re surrounded by caring gentle giants who’ve learnt to live with them in harmony. As humans, we could learn a lot from these interactions. The friendships grown between these dogs and elephants should be the example we all live by.
