For years, the debate of ‘nature vs nurture’ has plagued our brains. It’s a debate that challenges many aspects of our everyday lives. But can the same be said for animals? The answer is yes. It turns out that raising a cat around dogs may encourage a dog-like behavior. Don’t believe us? Well, this cat doing dog tricks will certainly change your mind.
When training dogs, the classic training moves are ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘roll over’. If you can master these basics, you’ve got a pleasantly trained and well-behaved dog.
But can the same rules apply to cats? It’s hard to say really… Cats are much more independent and usually prefer their own company. I can’t imagine many cats perform tricks for their humans – until I saw this cat.
A cat doing dog tricks certainly changed my opinion
Getting a dog to ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ are the basics but they can still take a bit of work. Getting a dog to roll over is a step up but still manageable. But how easy would it be to get a cat to perform such tricks? Pretty hard I guess.
For Didga the cat, it isn’t a problem though. Didga was adopted from a shelter by a professional trainer called Robert Dollwet. Now Didga lives with a bunch of other cats and dogs. The trainer regularly trained his dogs. But while other cats would be left to their own devices, Didga loved getting in on the action.
Didga picked up the tricks in no time at all. The trick of choice for her was to roll over. Whenever her Rottweiler siblings began training, Didga would join in and show them how it’s done.
She was great at following the dogs, I guess that’s why you call it a ‘copycat’!
