What would your dream holiday be? A lovely deserted beach? Intermittently swimming in the sea when the sun gets too hot? Mojito in hand and family lying next to you? An island all to yourselves? Maybe there are dogs. Actually, make that puppies. Rescue puppies. Okay, it’s time to wake up now. Or could you make this dream a reality?
Yes, the island of Providenciales in Turks & Caicos has a very special area. Potcake Place is the islands only animal rescue charity and is home to loads of potcakes as well as all sorts of other dogs. Potcakes are a breed of dog native to local islands like Providenciales and The Bahamas. And they are so cute!
Their name comes from the leftover food at the bottom of the pot, which would be fed to local strays. A cute dog with a cute story!
You can adopt the rescue puppies from Potcake Place. However, there is no commitment, so you can just take one out for a walk on the beach if you need some island puppy love. This has the knock-on effect of making the dogs happier, especially as they come from broken families or abusive owners in the past.
Donations are encouraged, but because everyone working at Potcake Place is a volunteer, it is free to adopt a dog. But, until we can afford a holiday, we’ll just enjoy these cute photos!
Can you think of anything more perfect than walking a rescue puppy on the white sand beach? It’s your own island, and you can even go swimming with them in the crystal clear waters. Nothing sounds better.
