Katie Page had been through a tough break up and wanted a change. That’s when she decided to start fostering children. She looked after loads of children before they found families who wanted to adopt them. But, throughout her selfless acts, she came to realise that she would love a child of her own. So, she adopted a little boy. But, little was she to know how a baby girl would soon come along and change everything.
She’d had Grayson for 11 months when she officially adopted him. He had been abandoned at the hospital with no name when he was four days old. Katie was so happy with her adopted son, but then she got a call from the hospital. There was a baby girl who had been dropped off who needed a mother urgently.
“I know over the next 10 minutes and subsequent phone calls I made that afternoon, the phrase ‘I know I am crazy, but God is telling me to say ‘YES’’ kept coming out of my mouth,” she explains.
Nurses dropped baby Hannah at Katie’s house right away. It was only when she checked Hannah’s paperwork that she noticed something strange. Her mother’s first name was the same as Grayson’s. What’s more, they had the same birthday!
“Grayson is half African American with beautiful darker skin and dark curly hair,” Katie says. “Baby Girl has a pale white skin tone with straight red-blonde hair.”
But Katie cracked out her detective skills and tracked down Hannah’s mother, who confirmed that the children were half-siblings. A DNA test offered further confirmation of the shocking revelation! What were the chances?
“I could not believe the miracle that had just happened,” says Katie. We can’t either. She’s planning on adopting their other sibling, five-month-old Jackson, at some point this year.
