What’s your dream when you get older? Own a house? Meet someone and fall in love? Start a family? Maybe you’ve already done those things. But, what everyone wants most is to be happy. This group of friends in China knew they would be happy together, forever (or at least for the foreseeable future). So, they all chipped in and bought a mansion to live in together! It’s like a more extravagant version of Friends!
The group met at work 20 years ago and fast became friends. One day, they were joking around and said that they should all retire together, in one big house. However, none of them really expected it to become a reality. But, that all changed when they saw the property of their dreams.
It may not look like much, but the big abandoned building in a suburb of Guangzhou was ideal. It was going cheap because locals thought it was an eyesore. And, let’s face it, it was. But, the friends clubbed together and began renovating the old mansion.
Including the costs of buying it and renovating it, the mansion cost the group $580,000 USD, but that more than paid off. That’s only $82,000 each, for a share of a mansion! Suddenly it seems like a bargain. And the results are incredible, it looks amazing inside and out.
There are floor-to-ceiling windows, great communal spaces, and even a pool! The kitchen and dining area are plenty big enough for everyone to do their own thing, and all seven friends have their separate bedroom. Each friend intends on learning a new skill for when they retire. One will learn how to cook really well, another will learn the art of herbal medicine, etc.
However, currently in their 30s and raising families, they don’t expect to move in for another 15-20 years! It sounds like the perfect venue for their birthday parties in the meantime…
What do you make of this shared mansion? It looks better than renting with strangers, that’s for sure! Let us know what you think in the comments, and share with your family and friends.
