People who run never cease to amaze and astound. Like, they enjoy running. Honestly, congratulations to them for enjoying such a healthy hobby, but most of us just can’t think of anything worse. But, one runner has changed the game for everyone else. His runs have an artistic streak, and it’s pretty incredible. With an amazing amount of foresight and planning, his running routes create beautiful masterpieces!
His first attempt was a bit shaky, but it’s clear he was attempting a Vulcan salute in the wake of Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy’s death. “I just printed out a paper map and sketched a hand shape along Market Street,” runner Lenny Maughan said. “The other fingers, thumb and wrist came pretty easily.” That was in 2015, and in the years since, he has made bigger and better pictures with his running routes.
If you find running boring, maybe this will spice it up for you. Lenny uses his run tracker app to make the incredible pictures, using San Francisco as his canvas. The app tracks his route, as well as things like heart rate, distance, and average speed. Most runners use these apps to track their workouts, but Lenny’s unique pictures have gone viral.
He runs one “picture route” a month, and has created everything from cats to tacos, all mapped on paper first. What if he makes a mistake, though? There’s no correcting it, he just has to try to incorporate it into the design.
His self-portrait of a runner and portrait of Frida Kahlo particularly took the internet by storm. Check them out. We can’t wait to see what’s next!
