We are sad to bring you the news that internet sensation Grumpy Cat passed away today, aged only seven. The cat rose to fame in 2012 and has since brought joy to all corners of the internet. You’ll have likely seen her scowling face accompanied by a humorous caption at some point in your life. And, if you are like anyone else, it will have brought a smile to your face despite her frown.
Her family released a statement on Twitter today, announcing the sad news.
“We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat.
“Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection.
“Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world – even when times were tough.
“Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”

At the end of the day, Grumpy Cat was a meme. She was a joke. But most of all, she was a pet. And for Tabatha, Bryan, and Chrystal, she was their pet.
They were lucky enough to laugh with and love Grumpy Cat every day of their lives, and she undoubtedly made them brighter. Despite her grumpy expression, she brought joy all over the world, but especially to her family.
Her disapproving face did bring us joy when times were tough, and her legacy will live on through a million memes. The internet’s unconditional love for Grumpy Cat brought us all together, to laugh, in spite of our differences.
We all loved Grumpy Cat, she was relatable and funny. Arguably the world’s first influencer, she left this world with 2.4 million followers on Instagram and a net worth of at least $1 million.
