No matter what your hobby is, it’s important that you make time for it. This is most important to help you relax and switch off from work and other commitments. However, it also gives you an opportunity for personal growth. The more you practise something, the better you can get at it. Whether it’s soccer or singing or turning a hedge into a dragon, practice makes perfect! Wait – a hedge into a what?
John Brooker is a 75-year-old pensioner from the UK, and he spent the last 13 years of his life sculpting his massive hedge. The 150-foot-long shrubbery stretches alongside his house and another property, which he rents out.
“I was standing at my kitchen sink one day and thought the hedge was boring so decided to do something with it,” he said.
On average, he spends about a day a week sculpting and gardening. With his trusty shears and pruning equipment, the results are incredible. But, why a dragon?
“I think the dragon came from my days in the Army,” he explained. “I did two tours in Malaysia so the dragon must have been in my subconscious. I’ve added wings and the top was quite plain but every year I add another couple of lines for definition.”
His wife Pippa, a retired graphic designer, helped with the design elements. But, the gardening is all down to John, and he’s immensely proud of his work. We must admit, it looks mighty ferocious!
John’s amazing talents come from 13 long years of practice. After all, if he makes a mistake, he has to wait until the hedge grows back before he can rectify it!
Let us know what you think of John’s commitment to his dragon hedge in the comments! Do you think it looks good? Don’t forget to share with your family and friends!
