Doggy Best Friend’s Wishes Are Granted As Owners Build Door In Fence, So They Can Play All The Time

By - 3rd May 2018

Tate (short for Potate) was a stray dog living on the streets before she was rescued by Hailee Graham and her husband. Now, Tate lives in the lap of luxury with cuddles on tap and food and shelter thanks to her beloved owners. But along with her new favorite humans, she has found somebody else who has made her life even better.

Around the same time that Hailee brought Tate home, her neighbors also got a dog about the same age, called Vernon. As soon as Tate and Vernon became aware of each other, they became immediate best friends.

A tall fence separated Tate and Vernon but they were determined not to let something as simple as a fence keep them apart. The adorable pair would dig at the earth around the fence, desperately trying to make a tunnel to see each other. No matter how much their parents tried to stop them, they were committed to finding a way to each other.

I walk outside and catch them digging a tunnel to each other. We couldn’t get them to stop,” Graham said. “We couldn’t keep them apart. They would just keep digging holes to each other.

Hailee thought about arranging regular playdates for the best friends so that they could see each other. But before she could put the plan into action, she had an even more perfect idea. Why couldn’t they put a gate in the fence so that the pair of pooches could see each other whenever they wanted?

I thought, ‘Why not just put a door in the fence, so they can play whenever, and their hoomans don’t have to get involved?’

So they did exactly that. Hailee’s husband set straight to work installing a ‘doggy door’ in the fence. Tate watched intently as a gateway to her best friend appeared right in front of her eyes. I think it’s clear to see that Tate was excited.

Ever since the doggy door has been installed, the cute pair has been back and forth from each other’s gardens constantly. They love playing together and have never been happier.

They love being together! I don’t know if they are actually in love, but I like to think so.

While Hailee knows that a ‘doggy door’ may not be to everyone’s preference, it works perfectly for this set of neighbors. They love to see their dogs enjoying each other’s company and Hailee hopes that it will inspire other dog owners to make their yards more ‘loving, open spaces’.

I hope that it encourages people to be more friendly with their neighbors, and encourage a sense of community. It has worked out well for us so far.

What a great idea Hailee had by installing a doggy door for the pair of best friends to see one another! Do you have a pet that is inseparable from their best friend?
