Dogs in care are generally pretty well cared for. However, it is no substitute for being in a loving home with a family who loves you. Of course, it is better than being abandoned or on the street, and shelters do a lot of good work. However, they are also stressful environments. This shelter dog finally realised she was going to his forever home, and her reaction is beautiful.
Bella spent most of her life in a kennel. It wasn’t a particularly nice kennel, either. The Romanian city pound that held her didn’t let her outside and gave her very little human contact. She also had fleas and untreated liver and spleen issues.
However, a rescue group called Howl of a Dog stepped in to help. They had seen the awful conditions that Bella the shelter dog was being kept in. One of the staff members from Howl of a Dog went to visit Bella and reached through the cage to pet her. Bella immediately licked her hand. This showed that she was a kind and gentle dog who just wanted love.
After being saved from the pound, Bella immediately looked more at ease. She rested at Howl of a Dog’s shelter before her vet appointments.
“She seemed to have instantly understood that she was being rescued and that she’s safe,” a spokesperson for Howl of a Dog said.
Bella’s Recovery
It was clear she was very happy to be around people again. The trips to the vet went well, and she is recovering well. She is eating lots to counter her previous malnutrition, and playing with other pups. And she is slowly becoming more trusting of humans.
This was proved when she finally lay her head down to sleep on a volunteer’s lap. In a Facebook post, Howl of a Dog wrote that “she was so trusting and relieved to be finally rescued that she simply fell asleep in my arms while we were heading to the veterinary clinic.”
