Mom Films Epic Carpool Karaoke With Son With Down’s Syndrome, Then 50 Other Moms Join In

By - 19th March 2018

Carpool karaoke has become popular on social media, thanks to James Corden‘s recordings with celebrities on The Late Late Show. YouTubers have channels dedicated to them and it is always great fun to watch people mime along to their favourite songs in the car – after all, we all do it. So one mom decided to use the popular craze to raise awareness for Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day and the video has touched the hearts of people all over the world.

Becky Carless from Coventry, filmed herself and her four-year-old son, Archie, singing along to ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri, and enlisted the help of 49 other moms and their children. Becky contacted other moms with children with down’s syndrome via a Facebook group called ‘Designer Genes’, and then all the moms combined their videos miming the song.

The idea is, we are just normal mums, we love our kids, they love us, and they are just like other four-year-olds, we wouldn’t change them.

Becky was inspired by Singing Hands, a YouTube channel that encourages people to learn Makaton (a form of sign language designed for people with speech problems). So she had all the moms film themselves signing the song along with their child.

The result of their recordings is a powerful video that shows the beautiful relationships that the moms and their children have, including cameos from their siblings. It’s hard to watch this video without shedding a tear.

The video was made in time for World Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day 2018, and the video has reached far and wide since it was uploaded on Friday.

Even celebrities such as James Corden, who made carpool karaoke popular in the mainstream, and Christina Perri herself have shown their support. Christina, who wrote the song, said that she was ‘honoured’ that they chose her song for the campaign.

If you were touched by this beautiful video, be sure to share the video to raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Awareness Week. ?
