There seems to be a lot of talks these days of how ‘the youth of today’ have no respect for their elders.
Sure, in some cases that can be true but we have a story that will counter that claim.
Just the other week, 18-year-old Evoni Williams worked her usual shift at Waffle House in Houston. It was here where she noticed an elderly man with an oxygen tank.
The old man was struggling to cut up his food. He was quite frail and his hands didn’t have the strength that they once had. But without a seconds hesitation, Evoni reached out to help him.
Laura Wolf, a patron at the restaurant uploaded pictures of the touching event on Facebook.
“I’m thankful to have seen this act of kindness and caring at the start of my day while everything in this world seems so negative.”
A week after the occurrence and Evoni’s simple act of kindness has been shared over 40,000 times on Facebook. Furthermore, the picture quickly reached the Texas Southern University School who have offered Evoni a scholarship worth $16,000 for her kind and caring manner.
The offer was a life-changing present for Evoni who graduated from high school back in May. She’d been working at Waffle House since then to try and save up money for the university fees.
Williams has been praised online and appreciates all kind words she’s received. But she doesn’t see her actions as being anything out of the ordinary. She had no idea the photo was being taken and online realised a few hours later.
“When I saw it, it’s just something I would do for anybody.”
Evoni said it was obviously the right thing to do by helping an old man.
