We all have our heroes. No matter who we are, or who they are, there is someone we look up to.  Someone who inspires us. Maybe it’s your mom, maybe it’s an actor or someone successful in your career. But you like to think you have something in common with them. Something that could help you to reach their level. Well, that was exactly the case for this toddler who met his soccer hero.

Joseph Tidd, from Florida, was born without his left forearm. Now two years old, he has learned to live life with only one hand. Many simple tasks are a lot harder, but he has overcome every obstacle.

His parents, Colleen and Miles Tidd, created a community of support to help him out. This involved family, friends, and of course role models. One such role model was Carson Pickett, a soccer player. Carson plays for Orlando Pride, and, like Joseph, she was born without her left forearm. But, it hasn’t stopped her from achieving her dreams.

As soon as Joseph saw Carson playing on TV, she was his hero. However, things were only going to get better for Joseph. The pair first met in April, and Carson pointed out that “we have the same arm!” There was nothing more affirming for Joseph. Then, they shared a “fist bump” with their left limbs.

Joseph couldn’t help but smile. Since their first meeting, Joseph has watched Carson play many times, always sat in the front row, and always fist-bumping his favorite soccer player.

“Overall, the amount of positive awareness that has spread, it’s just been phenomenal,” said his mom. And finally, Carson has someone like him who he can look up to.
