“Age is nothing but a number”, that’s something we like to tell ourselves to try and cling on to our youth. But it really is, honestly. You truly are only as young as you feel as Shirley Clements, a 63-year-old teacher wants to prove.
Shirley Clements is a 63-year-old high school dance teacher. Back in 2015, she was preparing to retire. She’d been teaching for a very long time and although she loved it, she was ready to move on.
But Shirley Clements planned on going out with a bang, not a fizzle!
Shirley has no fear of ageing and she wanted to show her students to take a hold of life and enjoy every moment.
That’s when Shirley decided to join her students in a hip-hop dance routine for an annual competition she launched over 20 years ago.
Now, if you’re anything like us at Happiest, you will have seen countless videos of elders dancing in fun and uplifting videos. We can’t get enough of them, they never fail to bring a smile to our faces. But Shirley is out of this world!
She may be in her sixties, but this teacher is here to prove that she’s still got it and she can easily keep up with her students, even though she’s at least three decades older than them.
Shirley and her students partake in an energetic “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson. The students got into formation before Clements ran on stage to join them, front and centre.
As soon as they started moving, everybody’s jaws dropped
Understandably too, she didn’t “do good for a 60-year-old” she did great for anybody of any age! She absolutely killed the routine with such passion and style.
Shirley even blasted out a powerful headstand and spin with ease. It will be a shame for this talented lady to retire, but she certainly has left a legacy behind.
Don’t forget to watch the incredible Shirley Clements kick-ass in this energetic hip-hop dance routine in the video below. Also, at Happiest we love hearing all of your opinions. So please let us know what you thought of the article in the comment section. 🐝
