We’re in the middle of a global outbreak! ‘World Cup Fever’ is back in full force and millions have been affected. It’s widely known that football fans (soccer fans) like to have a good time and the World Cup is the biggest fiesta in town.
Unfortunately, there will always be some horror stories, but at Happiest, we want to focus on something nice and positive. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
Yesterday (19th of June) saw a brilliant match between Senegal and Poland which ended in a 2-1 victory for Senegal. But while the celebrations were going on and the stadium started to clear, the fans did something a little unexpected.
Senegal fans cleaned the stadium
That’s right, before celebrating into the early hours of the morning, many Senegal fans cleaned the stadium before exiting. This seemingly small gesture actually is what the spirit of soccer should be about. Comradery and coming together to support your team/country.
As with most soccer matches, beer cups, packaging, flags and food wrappers litter the stadium. But these Senegal supporters left a truly sparkling reputation at the stadium when they decided to help to clear away all the litter and trash they could find before exiting the stadium.
While the Poland fans left the stadium feeling a little disappointed, the other side rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into the clean-up duties.
Their actions have been widely praised on social media. Many people have stated how impressed they are with Senegal’s supporters for respecting the stadium and keeping it tidy for the next group of fans to enter the stadium.
“Senegal fans cleaning up their part of the stadium after their victory against Poland is the best thing you’ll see today.”
But it’s not just Senegal fans that are getting stuck in
Japanese soccer supporters have also been pitching in to keep the stadium fresh and clean for the next bunch of fans. After their match against Colombia, Japanese fans also were seen picking up trash and cleaning up after themselves.
This truly is the sort of sportsmanship we expect to see at the World Cup. Bravo Senegal fans, you’ve done your country (and the world) proud.
