I do love a good cover of a classic song, especially when it’s performed by incredible professionals. And there are few covers that are greater than the incredible 5-piece a capella group known as Pentatonix.
A cappella singing sensations Pentatonix are known for their incredible covers, mashups and glorious renditions of well-known songs (as well as some great original music).
The group first rose to fame when they won the third season of NBC’s “The Sing-Off“. Since then they’ve had a number 1 album, they’ve sung with Dolly Parton and they’ve won three Grammy’s.
But this Pentatonix cover song really stands out
The quintet released a beautiful music video for a cover of the John Lennon classic song, ‘Imagine‘.
As you’d expect, the group perform beautiful a cappella harmonies throughout the song. It’s like an angel chorus singing to you. But then the group slowly started to hold up signs that ‘identify’ themselves.
Everything from “Jewish” to “Black” to “Latina” and “American” (to name a few) are held up to show how society defines them.
Much like the original song by John Lennon, the group wanted to showcase that no matter our differences, we’re all part of one race and that is humanity. It doesn’t matter that we’re all different, what should matter is that we are all human and we should all love and respect each other.
The song certainly has a powerful message. And with Pentatonix using such powerful vocals, the song is given a 21st-century update.
I don’t know about you, but I thought this was pretty spectacular.
