Simon & Garfunkel’s song ‘The Sound of Silence’ is well known for being a powerful, vocal extravaganza so the last person you’d expect to be able to do it justice is a gold miner.
Since the song was released in 1964 the song has been covered by numerous artists, but in Todd Hoffman’s recent Youtube video, he proves that you don’t have to be a professional singer to put on a fantastic performance.
Todd Hoffman, a professional gold miner and reality TV star from the show ‘Gold Rush’, is probably one of the last people you’d expect to have the voice of an angel, but he has proved everyone wrong. Since he posted his cover on Youtube, the video has amassed over 4 million views and he has gained countless more fans who are in love with his voice.
Hoffman has had years of experience leading successful businesses, from owning his own airspace company to forming a gold mining team in Alaska that went on to become the focus of a reality TV show. He sets out to be successful in whatever he puts his mind to – and that apparently now includes singing!
Here is a quick video Brian shot to go over my cover song. It was the hardest vocals so far. Feels like I’m progressing but a long way from where I would like to go. Enjoy.
It’s crazy to think that Todd feels remotely self conscious about his brilliant singing voice. He is clearly singing from the heart as he progresses through the epic ballad, showing off his great range and rock-singer vocals. But don’t take our word for it, have a listen for yourself. The powerful last chorus sends shivers down my spine.
