Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a variety act with a humble background knocks it out of the park. Father Ray Kelly wanted to showcase his God-given gift on Britain’s Got Talent and boy did he!

Father Kelly has managed to go viral overnight thanks to his heavenly vocals. This humble priest at the St. Brigid’s and St. Mary’s parish at Oldcastle, County Meath, Ireland wanted to showcase his talents after members of his congregation heard him singing at church.

Father Kelly sang a surprise rendition of Hallelujah with altered lyrics for a wedding 4 years ago, since then it’s had over 60 million views on YouTube.

This humble vicar spends most of his life dedicated to God and using his words to help and heal others. But in his rare moments of free time, Father Kelly loves singing.

He was finally coerced into appearing on Britain’s Got Talent and we’re thrilled he did! Instead of singing an obvious hymn or preaching, Father Kelly went on the show as any other contestant just wanting to showcase their talents.

Father Ray Kelly wows judges

Father Kelly chose to sing something that wasn’t a hymn, but still as powerful to him

Kelly sang “Everybody Hurts” by REM as he said the lyrics truly speak to him as his job requires him to help people in times of happiness and sadness.

The judges and the audience waited with bated breath to see how Father Kelly would get on with his performance. From the first note, the audience was blown away and by the time he finished, they’d erupted into applause.

At the end of his audition, Ant & Dec, the hosts of the show, asked what he thought of the large congregation. To which Father Kelly replied that he wishes he’d have brought his collection bucket.
