Are you all getting into the holiday spirit yet? I know I am, so we’ve decided to find you a nice little festive treat for you all. Our little treat is called ‘Duelling Jingle Bells’ and it’s a brilliant live performance from the United States Navy Band.
For most of us, Christmas is the happiest time of year. It’s a seasonal treat filled with presents, bright lights, and excited children. Naturally, this means we get to see a lot of festive treats throughout December that bring a smile to our faces.
As you all know, Christmas songs are a huge part of our culture and we can all recognize a good festive song. Jingle Bells is one of those Christmas classics that will never disappear.
The United States Navy Band has been representing their country proudly since 1925. They’ve played at inaugurations, presidential funerals, dinners, and other major events. The band is very varied and they love playing a mixture of jazz, country and classical music.
During their 2015 holiday concert, the band decided to treat the audience to a little performance. They had reimagined “Jingle Bells” by having a battle using a guitar and a banjo.
Senior Chief Petty Officer Keith Arneson plays the banjo and Petty Officer 1st Class Joe Friedman plays the guitar – together they performed a duel in great harmony.
The pair battle it out in their own unique “Duelling Jingle Bells” performance at the United States Navy Band holiday concert
The music started out in the traditional ‘Duelling Banjos’ fashion with each person riffing on their instrument. Once they’d done the first part, they began to improvise. In fact, Keith Arneson even managed to sneak in a little science fiction nod which got the whole crowd going.
We love a good musical battle and this one really manages to get us in the Christmas spirit.
