It’s not often it happens, but falling ill can be scary – especially when you’re behind the wheel. Thankfully, most people manage to park safely if they start to come down with something. But for one person, it all happened too quickly. A driver having a seizure was in danger.
A man noticed another driver maneuver dangerously through some red lights into oncoming traffic. Luckily, other drivers on the road in Dixon, Illinois, managed to steer around the car without any collision.
But while others were moving out of the way of the ‘dangerous driver’, another road user noticed that the man in the car didn’t look like a reckless driver.
39-year-old Randy Tompkins noticed that the driver was clutching his chest as the car was heading through the oncoming traffic. Thankfully, Randy spotted the situation and acted fast.
A driver having a seizure was in danger
Randy was driving his truck on the opposite side of the road, but after spotting the driver, he began reversing – not to avoid the driver, but to try and help him.
He had his arms up by his chest, I didn’t know if the guy was gonna push the gas, jerk the wheel or whatever, so I waited as long as I could to back up.
As the car went through the busy intersection, Randy reversed his truck, got out and ran towards the car. Randy noticed the driver was having a seizure behind the wheel.
Once he got about a half-car length away from me, I parked my truck at an angle and jumped out of my vehicle. I was worried, but I would do that for anybody. It just happened to be I was at the right place at the right time.
Randy then ran towards the car and leaped through the window – even though the car was still moving. He helped the man put the brakes on and pull the car over
A statement from Dixon Police Statement confirmed what happened. They also thanked Randy for his “heroism and for coming to a complete stranger’s aid”.
Wow I just saved this guy’s life in the blue car i jumped in his car he was having a seizure at the wheel the cops said they saw me jump in his window like Dukes of Hazzard it was crazy I saw him coming at me so I backed up real fast to the side and jumped out and jumped in his car to stop it wow my adrenaline is still going.
We’re so thankful that Randy managed to save the driver. It could have been a much worse situation had he not have been there.
