The Carr Fire in Northern California has been raging on, devastating business, families and wildlife across the state. But throughout all the heartache and pain, there seems to be a lot of compassion and kindness from the humans who were affected.
A Facebook page called Carr Fire Stories had been set up for victims of the fire to communicate. This group could have turned ugly very fast with blame being thrown around.
However, something truly beautiful came out of the Carr Fire disaster – kindness.
According to the local officials, the fire started after an unfortunate bout of bad luck. A trailer experienced a sudden flat tire. When the wheel’s metal collided with the pavement, it created sparks which then ignited a nearby bush.
On the Carr Fire Stories page, the administrators explained why they set up the group:
We personally know someone who’s mom is a neighbour to the man who’s trailer accident led to #CarrFire. Many have been thinking and praying for this man. We learned that his wife is blaming herself for the #CarrFire, because she asked him to take the trailer in the first place. She has been crying day and night on her couch. Do you think we can show some grace and extend kindness (and even forgiveness) for the shame and despair that she is experiencing?
City officials are protecting the couple’s names as this unfortunate accident wasn’t their fault – it was an accident. However, they wouldn’t be surprised if they became the targets of abuse or some form of retribution.
But that’s not what happened. Instead, a devastated community who have had their lives shattered, have instead responded with nothing short of love and compassion.
The responses from people in the group were nothing short of incredible. The human kindness that came out was something truly brilliant to see.
It was an accident, nothing more. Please do not torment yourself.
Sure, people are heartbroken. Lives have been lost and countless damage has been done while people are trying desperately to contain the blaze.
This is the sort of human kindness and compassion we need more of. For some of these people, they’ve lost everything; Family members, their homes, their livelihood so you would expect them to be angry. But they’re all explaining that it could have happened to anyone.
There is still so much work to be done to contain the fire and to rebuild homes. But seeing a community in turmoil be so understanding is something special.
In the face of tragedy, these families acted with sheer compassion. This is what being a human is all about. Coming together in horrible circumstances to stand strong as one unit.
We hope all the families get the help they need. We can’t imagine what they’re all going through.
How incredible is it to see such compassion from these victims of the Carr Fire disaster? At Happiest we love hearing all of your opinions. So please let us know what you thought of the article in the comment section. 🐝
