We’ve all heard of “pay it forward”, but these brothers took the idea to the next level. Jonathon and Stephen Full were eating in Chick-fil-A when Jonathon decided to show his appreciation for some local veterans in the best way possible.

The pair had taken their children to Costco and then Chick-fil-A to give their wives some free time to do their own shopping, but while they were eating at the North Roxboro Street branch in Durham, something happened that would change their days.

The group were enjoying their meals when Jonathon noticed two veterans come into the restaraunt. He immediately got up and offered to pay for their meals, as a way of thanking them for their service.

His idea was to teach his kids to appreciate what their servicemen do for their country, and how to pay kindness forwards, but when nine more servicemen came in, everyone was surprised when he ushered them to the front of the queue and offered to pay for all their meals as well.

This story takes on a whole new meaning, however, when you know about Jonathon and Stephen’s stepbrother. A week before, their stepbrother Joshua had committed suicide after struggling with intense post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, after returning to the US from a tour in the Middle East with the armed forces.

Jonathon’s kindness was a way of memorialising his beloved Joshua, and Stephen explained in a Facebook post that the pair wanted to help in “expanding efforts for PTSD support for the men and women that fight for our country everyday”.

“It’s always been on my mind to pay for some military members’ meals when I get the chance,” Jonathan said. “It just hit me real good in my heart to do it then. And it just happened.”
