Annoyed Dad Starts Campaign For Baby Change Facilities In Men’s Toilets

By - 30th May 2019

Are you a dad who has ever tried to change a diaper in a public toilet? If you’re a mom you know it’s difficult enough. Long line, screaming child, awkward changing table. That’s bad enough. But for dads, we don’t even have that. No table, no bin for diapers, nothing. But one annoyed dad has launched a campaign to try to change this. He wants baby change facilities introduced to all men’s toilets, as well as women’s.

What do dads even do when changing their child in public? You can’t put them on the floor of a public toilet. Well, this dad has it down. His squatting technique is uncomfortable and awkward, but at least it works. Donte Palmer is a dad of three sons and has started the movement #squatforchange, as well as an Instagram account Three Boys One Goal.

“What’s the deal with not having changing tables in men’s bathroom as if we don’t exist. Clearly, we do this often because look how comfortable my son is. It’s routine to him! Let’s fix this problem!” said Palmer.

While some public toilets have “family rooms” for parents of any gender to access, these are far from commonplace. In a modern world where fathers do as much childcare as mothers, the restriction of baby change facilities to mostly women’s restrooms seems archaic and outdated.

“Changing tables are important in men’s restrooms because fathers deserve the opportunity to be their best,” Palmer said.

The hashtag is catching on, with many dads all over America and the rest of the world joining in. He has also raised over $1400 on a GoFundMe, trying to implement the changes and donate excess money to the National Diaper Bank charity.
