Hikers Stumble Upon Rare Sight of an Owl Swimming Through A Canyon

By - 21st June 2017

During a walk through a canyon in Lake Powel, somewhere between Arizona and Utah, Derrick Zuk and a group of his friends were hiking when they came across a truly magnificent and rare sight, an owl swimming.

According to National Geographic, it is likely a great horned owl and still appears to have some of its nestling feathers.

Before seeing this video I didn’t think this was possible but great horned owls often roost on cliff edges and it is likely that it had a little accident and fell from its nest into the water. Fear not though, although they are unable to take flight from water, they will safely swim to land, dry their feathers before taking off back into the skies.

Derrick and his friends went back to the same spot a number of hours later and the owl was nowhere to be seen so is likely to have managed to have taken flight.

If you enjoyed this truly magnificent sight, please give it a share.?
