Being pregnant is a tough time. You tire easier and you need as much food and rest as possible for the good of the babies. So becoming pregnant while homeless is one of the last things you want to happen.
When Rosie the rescue dog came to the county animal shelter, she needed immediate help. Rosie, a golden retriever mix, was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and her babies could be due any day. Thankfully, the Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue found her a loving foster home to take care of her during this important time.
Katie and John Black have fostered over 20 dogs in their time, and the prospect of taking in a pregnant dog filled them with excitement. They couldn’t wait to help welcome her babies into the world.
However, when Rosie finally gave birth, Katie and John could barely believe their eyes. Rosie gave birth to four puppies that looked VERY different than their mama.
Not quite what we were expecting. Our foster dog and Golden mix gave birth yesterday. To baby cows.
Katie posted the amazing family photo to Reddit, and obviously, everybody was obsessed with Rosie’s ‘baby cows’. Rosie seems to be just as confused as the 90,000 people who upvoted Katie’s Reddit post. But appearances don’t matter to Rosie; she loves her black and white spotted babies and is a perfect mama.
Katie and John gave the four ‘cow babies’ perfect names – Daisy, Clarabelle, Betsy and Moo.
While nobody knows who the father is, one thing is for sure. He is not a golden retriever!
Rosie and her babies stayed with Katie and John while she nursed them. Then, when they were old enough, they were put up for adoption. The puppies and their mama Rosie are now all in loving forever homes.
While they may not look out of the ordinary on their own, their original family portrait proves just how one of a kind these ‘cow babies’ really are.
