What’s your favorite thing about Ikea? The meatballs? Or the crazy maze layout? Surely it isn’t trying to build the flat-pack furniture? Well, this crazy game might be your new favorite thing about the iconic Swedish home store!

Thousands of people signed up to a Facebook event organising a huge game of hide and seek at the Ikea store in Glasgow, Scotland. However, it seems the store got wind of the plans and preemptively called the police.

Commenters on the event explained that people were being turned away by police on the door. Manager of the store Rob Cooper released a statement.

“The safety of our customers and co-workers is always our highest priority.

“We were aware of an unofficial hide and seek Facebook event being organised to take place at our store and have been working with the local police for support.

“While we appreciate playing games in one of our stores may be appealing to some, we do not allow this kind of activity to take place to ensure we are offering a safe environment and relaxed shopping experience for our customers.”

This isn’t the first such event, however. The organiser of a similar event in a Belgian Ikea store said, “Sometimes it’s fun just to do some childish things. Ikea is like an extremely large living room. We played hide and seek the whole day. It was really exhausting but so much fun.”

However, Ikea staff say safety concerns are the reason that they shut down the fun and games.

“It’s hard to control. We need to make sure people are safe in our stores and that’s hard to do if we don’t even know where they are.”

Would you play a huge game of hide and seek in the flat-pack furniture store? We think it would be great fun! Let us know in the comments, and share with your family and friends.
