20 years after Alanis Morissette’s hit song ‘Ironic’ stormed the music charts, she is back with an updated version that is applicable to problems in 2018. Needless to say, we love it!
There are some songs that everybody seems to know – and one of those songs is Alanis Morissette’s 1995 smash hit, ‘Ironic’. The song made it into the Top 5 in Australia, Canada, the U.S and Norway, and the song has stood the test of time by becoming a karaoke classic.
Anyone who has listened to the song has found themselves thinking ‘is this my life?’ as Alanis lists off all the unfortunate things that happen in your day-to-day life. Sometimes there are just days that seem to be against us…
As Alanis lists off the ironies of unfortunate coincidences (that ironically aren’t technically ironic) it’s easy to listen and go ‘yep, that’s happened to me… and that one… and that one.’ So with the help of James Corden, host of The Late Late Show, she has updated the 1995 song to be applicable in 2018.
Dressed in matching attire, Alanis and James sing a hilarious version of the original song, talking about 2018 problems such as the first day of your diet being ruined by ‘office cake’, the new iPhone coming out the day after you bought one, and swiping left on your future soulmate on Tinder.
The revamped song is so funny and very relevant; I think it’s fair to say this version may make it into the charts, giving Alanis a new hit on her hands.
