A teacher is usually the second most important adult in a child’s life… This teacher went above and beyond to help one of her students.
Nancy Bleur, a caring 54-year-old kindergarten teacher from Iowa has a heart of gold and absolutely adores her students. She goes out of her way to ensure they are happy at all times.
One day at school, she noticed that one of her students, 4-year-old Camden wasn’t his usual self. She proceeded to have a little chat with him to see what was the matter. That was when the boy started telling her about his father… Nancy’s heart began to sink.
She felt like she had to do something – and fast.
It turns out that Camden’s father, 34-year-old Darreld Petersen, was very sick. When Nancy realised just how bad his situation was, it made her even more worried as she couldn’t begin to fathom how it was affecting his son Camden. That’s when she decided to give the dad a call.
Something was seriously wrong with Darreld’s kidneys that made them function at around 20 percent of their capacity. It was during his dialysis treatment that Darreld began to appear so sick that poor Camden was beginning to feel terrified each time he saw hid daddy.
Nancy, being the person she was, decided she wanted to help the family in any way she could. Most people would assume she offered to help with the groceries, offered to babysit or to cook and help out with daily chores – but Nancy went the extra mile to lend her helping hand… She offered Darreld one of her kidneys.
Miraculously, she happened to be a perfect match meaning that all she had to do was quickly fill out some paperwork and she could begin the transplant.
“I was really excited about it. I was ecstatic. I don’t know what I would’ve done for closure if I wasn’t [a match],”
Camden’s dad was so overwhelmed and delighted with Nancy’s incredible offer of kindness. He knew that this extraordinarily kind gesture would be saving his life.
“It’s just amazing. There are people waiting every day for a kidney, for an organ in general. I wish there were more people like her. She’s giving me a second chance at life,” Darreld told ABC News.
When the family found out that Nancy’s kidney was a match with Darreld’s, they decided to surprise her with flowers at school. Camden couldn’t be happier about the fact that his teacher is helping save his father’s life.
Nancy has proved that there is a world full of good people. Let’s hope the operation runs smoothly and that the both of them have a safe and speedy recovery.
