Orangutan Is Recorded Giving Birth, When She Notices Human Watching, She Slowly Starts To Edge Closer

By - 12th March 2018

Orangutans are closely related to humans, and while they may not look too similar to us, their practical intelligence and family bonds are proof that we’re made from similar moulds.

The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust caught one of their orangutans giving birth on camera and the video is incredibly special.  The mother’s maternal instincts are beautiful to witness as she safely delivers her baby and brings it into the world so efficiently and lovingly. It seems that mothers aren’t much different throughout the animal kingdom…

The video is slightly graphic as it shows the miraculous moment of birth and the mother’s grooming process afterwards, but it is truly beautiful to watch as nature takes its course. Once she has cleaned off her baby and feels comfortable, the mother comes to the humans she knows so well to show off her newborn baby. She is so proud of her new addition to the family, she wants the world to see it.

What makes this video all the more amazing is that this is the first time that an orangutan has been captured on film giving birth. The mother crawls into her nest when she feels it is time and gives birth quickly and easily, without the help of medical staff or any pain medication. What a strong momma!

This remarkable video acts as extra proof that orangutans come into the world in very similar ways to humans. They are also raised in a very similar manner, with loving mom’s who will love and protect them no matter what.
