Hero Dad Rushes Onto Speedway After NASCAR Crash, Trying To Save His Son Trapped In Burning Car

Most parents would do anything for their kids. Whether it’s helping them out financially, taking them to their piano recitals or looking after them where possible. In this case, one father saves his son from a burning car after it crashed into flames after it hit a wall.

Father saves his son from a burning car

Mike Jones’ race in the NASCAR Late Model 100 came to a fiery finish. After sliding and crashing into a wall, his car immediately erupted into flames. But as soon as it went up, his father was there to rescue his son.

Crew Chief Dean Jones, Mike’s father ran straight towards the burning car with no fear or a second’s hesitation

Dean wasn’t going to sit and watch while his son could potentially face death. He jumped over the barrier and onto the track at the South Boston Speedway in Virginia.

In just a t-shirt and shorts, no form of fire protection, Dean ran straight towards the flames and yanked his son out of the car with all his strength. But that wasn’t all, once he had pulled his son from the vehicle, he then went back to turn on the car’s fire suppression system.

Dean Jones is the ultimate NASCAR father!

But what happened to cause this commotion? NASCAR driver Mike Jones lost control of his vehicle which caused him to bump into another car before spinning out of control and slamming into the track wall.

The car burst into a hellfire of bright flames which had him trapped for around 25 seconds as the engine burned around him.

Dean jumped the wall and ran straight towards his son. Thankfully, he managed to pull Mike through the window of the burning car and get him away from the wreckage while the crowd looked on in horror.

Motor1 explained that one of the most dangerous things to happen on a race track is for a car to catch fire. When a fire starts, it can prevent the rescue team from getting close to the car to help out the driver. The flames spread quickly and ferociously which means rescuers only have a small window to act if a car goes up in flames.

Mike managed to get his restraints removed after the crash but at the time, fuel was still leaking from his car and onto the track. This caused the fire to spread rapidly.

Luckily, the fire was contained by the engine bay. If it hadn’t, Mike Jones could have been in a fatal situation.

This wasn’t the first time Dean had stepped in to save his son

“I remember catching in an all-star tournament when I was 12 and I got knocked out from a play at the plate. My dad Dean Jones hopped the centerfield fence and ran to home plate to make sure I was OK. 16 years later nothing has changed.”

Luckily, Mike remained unharmed from the accident. But it has been reported that his father, Dean, may face punishment from NASCAR. Why? For going on to the track to attempt to tackle the fire.

But honestly, I don’t think he’s going to care too much about that. His son is safe and alive, that’s the most important part!
