No story makes me smile more than that of human kindness. Especially when it’s between strangers, proving the world’s not such a bad place after all. It shows the love that two humans can share with each other without really knowing each other. True human compassion.
Ruben Swift, a man from Cleveland, flower to Phoenix to pick up his infant daughter, Ru-Andrea. Ru-Andrea was just 4 days old and Ruben had been granted custody of his baby girl. However, a policy stipulated by Frontier Airlines says that an infant must be at least 7 days old before they can be approved to fly.
Ru-Andrea was released from the hospital and her father, Ruben, had a note to verify this but the airline refused to let them on the flight. Frustratingly, this meant that Ruben had to wait 3 days before returning home to Cleveland. Naturally, this left the new father in a bit of a predicament, they had nowhere to stay!
Thankfully, an angel was sent to Ruben and Ru-Andrea in the form of Joy Ringhofer, a volunteer at Banner University Medical centre. This was the centre that Ru-Andrea was born. Joy met Ruben when he arrived to pick up his little baby girl.
With nowhere else to turn, Ruben reached out to Joy and asked if she knew what he could do.
“I didn’t expect her to say, ‘I’m coming to get you and take you home.’ So, I’m thinking, ‘She is going to drive me back to Cleveland?’ But she actually brought me to her house and [is] feeding me and making sure my baby is alright,”
Ruben and his baby girl stayed with Joy for the next 3 days until they could fly home. “I had such a strong feeling that I needed to do this for him,” Joy said. “I know he was a kind and safe man to have in my home and he has been a perfect gentleman.”
He was overcome with emotions from Joy’s kind gesture. “We’re two different colours, and she opened up her door, and it never was an issue. My colour was never an issue,”
She loves my baby… My baby was with her all night. She stayed up with her. Who does that?”
Ruben and Ru-Andrea managed to fly home but Ruben promised to come visit Joy, the woman he now considers family.
“She’s fed me; she took care of me. She’s the grandmother to my child now. She looked after me,”
