Family Rescue Orphaned Kangaroo, But After Meeting The Rest Of The Family, He Thinks He’s A Dog

By - 29th March 2018

When Ashley Stewart and his family rescued a baby kangaroo two years ago, they never expected to be welcoming a third “dog” into their lives. But that’s exactly what they got… A kangaroo that thinks he’s a dog!

Dusty the kangaroo‘s mother was hit and killed in a road accident Knowing the orphaned joey would not survive, they brought him home to their farm in Wittenoom Hills in Western Australia.

The kangaroo survived thankfully and bonded beautifully with the family’s two dogs, Rosie the Collie and Lilly the Golden Retriever. Together, Dusty and the dogs get on like a house on fire and they do everything together.

Dusty loves hanging out with her new family, so much so that the family had to buy Dusty a third dog bed because she would steal one of the other dogs to fit in.

Ashley said that Lilly is particularly fond of the kangaroo and Dusty loves Lilly like his own mother. Now, this kangaroo thinks he’s a dog!

“He thinks Lilly is his mum, he’s always grooming her, they’re always together and if Lilly goes out of the yard he pines for her and sort of hops up and down the fence until he’s let out to go with her.”

I don’t know about you, but I would love a pet kangaroo now. Dusty looks so happy and home with her new adopted family and their canine companions. We love seeing two species bond and support each other.

How amazing is this kangaroo that thinks he’s a dog? It goes to show that we can all live in harmony. If these completely different animals can love each other, surely so can we! At Happiest we love hearing all of your opinions. So please let us know what you thought of the article in the comment section below. ?
