It’s heartbreaking when animals are surrendered to a shelter. They can spend years waiting for a kind stranger to adopt them and save them from their cages. So, sometimes the animals have to come up with creative ways to get noticed, and this little dancing dog has her method down to a tee.
Due to the number of puppy mills and private breeders, there are more animals out there than there are adoptive families. Many animals end up stuck in a shelter as a result. But this talented dog in Florida wasn’t prepared to spend her entire life locked up.
Fittingly named Ginger Rogers (the award-winning actress and dance partner of Fred Astaire) by the animal shelter staff, the dancing dog used her talents to get the attention of prospective owners. Whenever someone new would walk by she would crack out her best dance moves to get attention. I think it’s safe to say that little Ginger sure does command attention.
Ginger was found on a street corner in Orlando, Florida, and was brought to the Orange County Animal Services adoption center. The poor pup had heartworm and so the shelter offered to waive the adoption fee for Ginger to help alleviate some of the cost of her treatment.
The shelter’s volunteer coordinator, Crystal Kincaid, filmed Ginger doing her little ‘adoption dance’ and uploaded it to the shelter’s Facebook page. Unsurprisingly, the dancing dog’s video went viral, gaining over 390,000 views. Her hilarious moves certainly caught people’s attention and she eventually succeeded in her mission – she got adopted!
A loving family saw the video online and applied to adopt Ginger the very next day. Now Ginger has her own dancing partner to practice her moves with forever. I love a happy ending!
