The Troy Police Department in Michigan put a call for followers in order to get a police cat. The department stated that they will “interview” 3 police kitty candidates on Friday to see which will make the cut.
With help from the Michigan Humane Society, the 3 candidates were interviewed on Friday morning. It started on March 6th when the department tweeted that if they got 10,000 followers by April, the chief would allow them to get a police cat.
They’re looking for the perfect police cat
Just over a week later, the department managed to pass their target and so a cat was coming their way! But like most professional policemen, they had to pass some background checks. Any cats caught with catnip need not apply!
Troy Police Sgt. Megan Lehman requested, “Friendly and works well with the public just like officers.”
“There’s a bunch of other skills we think cats have that are law enforcement skills too, like being able to watch people, being alert.”
The department made it clear that no taxpayer money will be used to care for the police cat. They will gladly care for it out of their own pockets.
