As a young child, birthday’s are one of the most magical times of the year. It’s a whole day dedicated to you, with friends, family, cake and presents. But one young boy wanted just one thing – a police birthday party.
Zachary, a 5-year-old boy from Auckland, New Zealand is fascinated by the police force. He wants to be a policeman when he grows up and so he wanted to have a themed police birthday party.
But to guarantee he could make this happen, he did something that you absolutely shouldn’t do. Zachary called 111 (the New Zealand 911) to invite them to his party.
The Counties Manukau police released the audio footage of Zachary’s mother calling emergency services to apologize that her son had called them up.
Oh my god, I’m so sorry. That was my nearly five-year-old son, he was just telling me that he wanted to invite the police to his police-themed fifth birthday party.
His mom didn’t realize the phone was actually on and so she had no idea that Zachary had made a couple of calls trying to invite organize a police birthday party.
All Zachary wanted was a police birthday party with some real-life police officers
Thankfully, the operator taking the call accepted Zachary’s mom’s apology. She jokingly said she would notify the officers to see if any of them would be able to attend.
But come the day of the birthday party, Zachary heard a knocking at the door. When he went to answer, he noticed there was a squad of police officers in full riot gear wanting to talk to him.
At first, the little boy looked a little nervous, but when they gave him a stuffed K9 toy he realized they were here for the party.
The officers let Zachary try on the uniform, turn on the sirens on the car, learn more about the police and even get an eagle helicopter to fly overhead.
Facebook users were so impressed with the police department’s enthusiasm and kindness to keep inspiring kids to be interested in the police force.
That is the most awesome thing you could have done for that gorgeous boy. Brought a tear to my eye.
But fear not, the police have warned others watching that they shouldn’t try and emulate Zachary’s actions.
While our off-duty staff were happy to bring Zachary’s birthday wish to life. We don’t encourage kids calling 111 to invite the police to their birthday.
