U.S marine, Dave Woodruff, had spent the past eight months deployed in Spain, so it had been a long time since he had seen his family. Working overseas meant that he had missed many special occasions over the years, such as his father’s birthday. So this year he wanted to do something special for the occasion.
When Dave discovered that his deployment was going to finish earlier than planned, he used this as the perfect opportunity. He didn’t tell his family that he was coming home earlier, and instead, set to work concocting a plan.
Teaming up with a group of friends back home, he set to work planning a surprise that his parents would never forget.
One day, Dave’s parents attended church service at Christ the King Church in Deville, New Jersey, as usual. They thought it would be a normal Sunday worship. But they had no idea what was in store for them.
We have a little treat before I dismiss everyone.
Before everyone left, the minister announced that he had a special video to play for the congregation. One that happened to come from Dave Woodruff.
In the video, Dave wished his dad a happy 53rd birthday and apologized that he hadn’t been able to celebrate with him the past two years. He told them how much he loved and missed them, reducing his mother to tears. But there was one last message he had for them, and that was when he told everyone to turn around.
Watch the touching video below to see Dave’s surprise for his parents. I must warn you, it’s a bit of a tearjerker!
