The faith of a child is a pretty powerful thing. They’ve not been worn down with bills, interviews, and disappointment yet. Sara Moore Gruver from Watkins Glen, New York, is a mother of three who recently learned how strong her children’s faith can be.
She was nearing the end of her pay period and she had to budget her money quite aggressively. Her kids were not aware that she had been budgeting for the month when they were begging their mom to buy them some ice cream.
They didn’t know their mom was struggling financially, they just wanted a nice treat to enjoy. Sara explained to her kids that she only had $20 left in her pocket which she had to get her through until payday. Still, they had plenty of food at home so they wouldn’t go hungry.
But the cravings for ice cream were getting all too strong. Who can blame them? Ice cream is one of the greatest little pleasures in life and as a child that’s even truer!
She could hear the disappointed sighs from her kids in the back seat of the car. But Sara knew she couldn’t justify the money. So when the kids heard a “no” from their mom, they turned to the next person to help them in their hour of need – God.
That’s right, the kids prayed for ice cream
God, we’d really love some ice cream. Is there any way you can give mommy some money so we can get some ice cream tonight? We know you can. Thank you.
Sara then reminded her kids that God had bigger things in the world that people are praying for so she let them know he might not be able to help.
God isn’t going to drop money on our door step so you can get ice cream. He’s BUSY right now with natural disasters.
Her eldest son, Josh, knew that God is never too busy for even the smallest of prayers in life. After all, he managed to feed the five thousand with five loaves of bread and two fish! I’m sure three ice creams would have been no big deal. Even when Sara told him it wouldn’t be possible, Josh disagreed.
Nope, God said you’ll have plenty of money for ice cream and to give some to the natural disaster people.
When they pulled into the driveway, their mail was on the front porch. As the kids got out of the car, she opened the envelope and inside was a check for $123.
But where did Sara’s miracle money come from?
The extra money was a cheque from an overpayment on a student loan from several years before.
The kids were not surprised. God was not surprised. They got ice cream. The Red Cross got a donation. And Mom remembered, yet again, what it means to have the faith of a child.
I guess if you don’t ask you don’t get. Maybe it’s a coincidence or maybe God answered the kids’ prayers. Either way, they got their ice cream after all!
These kids prayed for ice cream and it seemed to work out for them. Have you ever wished for something that worked out for you? At Happiest we love hearing all of your opinions. So please let us know what you thought of the article in the comment section below. 🐝
