Births are pretty stressful, and that’s an understatement. The people who work the hardest are the new mothers, obviously, but after them, it’s all about the doctors. The team of medical professionals in attendance are vital to a healthy birth, and it’s always a relief when things go according to plan. However, one doctor in Pittsburgh likes to relieve the tension in a slightly different way…
Dr Cary Andrew-Jaja always sings to newborn babies as soon as he delivers them. His renditions of happy birthday are now famous across America. He has delivered over 8,000 babies over the last 40 years and has sung to every one of them. His incredible efforts just make the births an even happier time!
When asked why he does it, he explained his thinking. “When I’m singing to those babies, I think I am singing to a future important person,” he says. “That’s the credit I give to all of them.”
Now the doctor is being rewarded with his very own day in Pittsburgh! Jaja day will be celebrated every year on May 16, to honor his dedication. Hopefully, everyone will sing to him for once! The singing doctor retired last month, but his legacy will live on through Jaja Day. He really deserves every bit of the attention!
Normally, Dr Jaja treats all babies the same. However, the baby pictured received an extra special rendition of happy birthday, because Jaja also delivered his dad many years ago! And yes, he got a song, too.
