There are moments in life that truly remind us the importance of family and love. This moment when a deaf baby hears her mom say ‘I love you’ for the first time is one of those moments.
When Christy Keane and her husband welcomed their second daughter into the world, they couldn’t have been more in love with her. But after just a couple of months of baby Charlotte’s life, they noticed that something wasn’t quite right.
They noticed that Charlotte wasn’t responding to verbal cues and sounds, so they took her to the doctors for a checkup. The news that they received devastated them; Charlotte was deaf and the doctors didn’t know if she would ever be able to hear.
Hearing aids were the obvious choice to help Charlotte live as normal a life as possible, but the doctors were skeptical. They ordered the devices but they warned Christy not to get her hopes up.
Having a deaf child wasn’t an issue, as Christy knew that she could provide Charlotte with the love and support she would need. What upset her was the fact that Charlotte may never be able to hear their voices or hear certain phrases such as ‘I love you.’
When the big day finally arrived, she applied the hearing aids to Charlotte and hoped for the best. Miraculously, from the moment she turned them on, Charlotte’s face lit up. They had clearly worked.
Hearing her mother’s voice for the first time, Charlotte’s face broke out into a big grin. As dad filmed the special moment, he captured the range of incredible emotions Charlotte was feeling at that moment. As soon as Christy said the magic three words she had longed for her to hear, Charlotte looked like she was holding back tears and swallowing a lump in her throat. It is enough to make you tear up yourself!
It is a truly beautiful moment and incredibly emotional. While the hearing aids will help Charlotte live a normal life, they have also granted her the greatest gift of all – being able to hear her parents tell her they love her.
