Fresh air and exercise is the staple of a healthy lifestyle. This much we know because nobody wants to be cooped up indoors on a nice summer day. Shelter animals are no exception! Bring on Cross-Country!
Thankfully, they have found the perfect group of people to get them up and moving. On Thursday, the dozen or so adoptable pups from the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter were treated to the best morning run they could hope for.
Students from St. Joseph High School‘s Cross-Country Team in California decided it would be nice to invite the dogs along for their daily workout.
Each of the cross-country team members was paired up with a doggy partner before heading out on their miles-long run as one jolly great unit.
“I am not sure who was more excited and having the most fun … the dogs or the kids,” team coach, Luis Escobar, wrote online. “Either way, it was a great time and I am sure we will do it again sometime soon.”
Everyone involved appeared to have fun, including little Fred who got tuckered out a little early.
We’re hoping this becomes a regular thing and other schools and shelters get involved in the project.
