When Bailey Seller’s father died of cancer when she was just 16 years old, she didn’t know how she would go on without him. But her caring father had made sure that she would still have him in her life on the most important day of the year.
Bailey’s father Michael was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer a couple of weeks after Christmas in 2012, and in just six months the disease had taken his life. However, before he went, he arranged something special for Bailey that would happen every year on her birthday, up until her 21st.
Michael arranged for flowers to be delivered to Bailey every year on her birthday after his death, accompanied by a personal message. The last instalment would be for her 21st birthday. Knowing that this would be the last time she received anything from her deceased father, Bailey couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions as her 21st loomed near.
On the big day, Bailey was overwhelmed with emotion as she received her final bouquet of flowers and read a very special card that her father had written to her. Be prepared to grab a box of tissues… you’ll need them!
This particular year was the hardest year for Bailey as she knew it was the last message she would receive from her beloved father.
Ever since my dad passed away I’ve hated my birthday and I dread it every year because he always made it so special. I was especially dreading my 21st because I knew it would be the last year.
Accompanying her daddy’s bouquet of flowers, Bailey received a birthday card. The message inside was nothing short of tearjerking.
Sobbing yet? Well, after shedding tears at the letter herself, Bailey was able to see the positive message amongst the sorrow of realising this was the last communication she would have with her loving father.
I broke down. That letter was very, very awesome and sad all at the same time.
Bailey from Knoxville, Tennesse, had posted pictures of her birthday flowers every year on social media, but this year she got a big shock when her post went viral. Clearly, a lot of people were moved by Bailey’s story as over 280,000 people retweeted and millions liked her post.
The huge outpour of support from strangers on her birthday has left Bailey believing that her father is still continuing to send messages to her in ways other than a bouquet on her birthday.
I honestly think that was my dad. He was trying to make my birthday spectacular.
No matter how much times passes, the bond between a parent and their child never dies. Michael’s spirit will live on within Bailey and the rest of his three children. What a wonderful father.
