Italy is a known holiday destination, but it isn’t usually this hot. Temperatures have reached 38 degrees Centigrade – that’s over a 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the European country. What’s more, most European countries are not prepared for heat like this. Most people don’t have air conditioning, and these levels of heat can be dangerous. The heat wave is a real shock.
The Ministry of Health in Italy has issued a level three weather warning, which means that it is very dangerous. This is the worst level of warning and means everyone is in danger, not just children and the elderly. Make sure to stay hydrated and take breaks indoors if you’re getting too hot. And plenty of sunscreen!
However, it’s not just people who are getting too hot. Animals at Bioparco Zoo in Rome are suffering, too. The heat wave could have ill effects for them, so zookeepers are trying their best to keep them cool.
Zookeepers have frozen massive blocks of ice for the animals, filling them with tasty treats such as fruit. As you can see in the video, the animals love it. It’s just what they needed in the heat wave! However, it’s the bears who had the most adorable reaction.
One bear, in particular, wouldn’t leave the pool to eat its home-made ice pop. And we can’t blame him! Actually, lounging in the pool eating ice cream sounds like the perfect way to chill out in this heat wave! Us humans could take notes.
What do you make of these animals and their attempts to cool off? Which is your favorite? It’s the bears for us, but the monkeys come a close second!
