We all know how clever our dogs are, but this one, in particular, might be the cleverest boy of all. How proud were you when your puppy first learned how to sit? Or when he gets your newspaper when the postman arrives? However, this clever dog takes it to the next level and uses leaves as money.
Negro is a gorgeous black dog who lives at Diversified Technical Education Institute of Monterrey Casanare in Colombia. He guards the staff and pupils and provides love and affection. In return, the school houses him and feeds him.
Students from the school often bought him special dog cookies, but they didn’t know that he was watching the whole time. Watching and learning. He saw students exchange green paper for treats, so one day he did it himself.
The clever dog found the greenest leaf he could and went up to the counter to get himself a treat.
“He would go to the store and watch the children give money and receive something in exchange,” said Angela Garcia Bernal, a teacher at the school. “Then one day, spontaneous, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting it be known that he wanted a cookie.”
“When you first see it, you almost want to cry,” she went on. “He’s found a way to make himself understood. He’s very intelligent.”
“He comes for cookies every day,” said store attendant Gladys Barreto. “He always pays with a leaf. It is his daily purchase.”
They try to limit him to two a day, so he doesn’t get unhealthy, but everyone is amazed by the clever dog’s intelligence. What do you make of his purchases? Could dogs be more clever than we think they are? Let us know in the comments, and share with your family and friends.
