One of the most important things about getting married is having your closest friends and family with you. It’s an incredibly special day that you hope will only happen once. If anyone were to miss it, you would be understandably devastated. But, that’s Tara Foley thought was going to happen on her special day. Her 102-year-old nana was unable to travel.
“When my Nana was put on hospice, the nurse asked her what her goals were,” Tara wrote on Facebook. “She replied that she wanted to be at my wedding.”
However, it didn’t look like that would be a possibility for Tara’s nana Stasia.
“They reluctantly told her they didn’t want her flying anymore,” she continued. “She was nearly 103 years old and her heart was failing.”
“I knew in my heart she was trying to hang on to get there somehow. I decided to fly to her with my wedding dress, it was unaltered and didn’t fit yet but none of that mattered.”
Tara told some white lies to her friends and family about where she was that weekend, so she could surprise them with the beautiful photos. But, most importantly, her nana was a part of her wedding celebrations.
A Beautiful Moment Between Nana And Granddaughter
“Words cannot explain how much these moments mean to me,” Tara said. “And I will cherish these memories for the rest of my life. Her smile and her laugh are forever etched in my mind and the love between us will live in my heart. This was one of the greatest days of my life.
“When I said goodbye to her that night, I think we both knew it would be the last time we would see each other. She grabbed my cheeks with her hands, looked me straight in the eye and said ‘I love you very much’, and 27 days later she passed away. I am so blessed to have this be my last memory with her.”
Tara is looking at the positive side of things and is just happy that she created these incredible last memories with her wonderful nana. They both loved every minute of it, and it warms our hearts too.
