Back in 2013, one of the sweetest, most powerful and heartwarming surprises went viral on the internet. Make-A-Wish foundation decided to give a special surprise to a 5-year-old boy with leukemia… And that is the origin story of Batkid.

5-year-old Miles Scott got the opportunity of a lifetime. He wanted to become Batman for the day. So the Make-A-Wish foundation helped turn Miles Scott into ‘Batkid’ for the day.

The organization put together one of the greatest experiences imaginable and they got a whole town in San Francisco involved. Because of this, the whole story went global and it became national news for melting people’s hearts.

They wanted to let Batkid go on a crime-fighting adventure in San Francisco. They posted online to get volunteers to take part and they were blown away by how many actually took part.

The Bay Area was turned into Gotham City for the day. They dressed Miles up as ‘The Dark Knight’ and they had him fighting crime with Batman. They had to stop The Riddler robbing a bank and The Penguin who tried to kidnap the San Francisco Giants mascot, Lou Seal.

Thanks to the 20,000 volunteers, the experience was incredible. Batkid even received a message from President Barack Obama.

It was a day that Miles and his family would never forget. He got messages from astronauts, the chief of police and thousands of fans cheering him on. But now there is even more exciting news.

Five years ago today, Miles Scott became Batkid and the world cheered him on. Now 10 years old, Miles is a happy, healthy 5th grader and has been in remission from leukaemia ever since! Wishes have proven physical and emotional benefits and can produce better health outcomes.

How awesome is that! 5 years later and Miles has beaten cancer!

Miles was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just 18 months old. He had his last treatment in 2013 and he visits the oncologist every year to be safe. He’s been in remission for the last 5 years now!

Since meeting with Miles, the foundation revealed that he now enjoys science and robotics and he plays Little League baseball. The fifth grader also helps out on his family farm and he sold his first goat at the local fair recently. Batkid is still going as strong as ever.

We’re just so thrilled to know that Batkid is fit and healthy and that his magical day helped him keep his spirits up in his battle against cancer.
