Dogs are the noblest of creatures, but sometimes humans can be too. Janine is one of those special people. You know the type – completely selfless, filled with kindness, and would do anything for anybody. Or, more accurately, would do anything for any dog.

Watson, a pitbull, had been abandoned on the street. While we like to think of all dogs as having good homes, loving owners, and long, luxurious lies, that is unfortunately not always the case.

With nobody there to feed him, look after him, or take him for long walks in the park, Watson was struggling. He needed something more than a ball to play with or a frisbee to catch. He needed professional help.

Luckily, Janine works for Speranza Animal Rescue, so immediately took him in. But even she knew there was nothing the shelter could do to save the poor pup.

Nevertheless, when a stranger brought him in, she did the best she could. Watson was covered in sores and had an inoperable tumour. There really was nothing she could do. However, Janine decided that she was going to make his last hours on earth as comfortable and filled with love as she could.

She stayed at his side all night so that he wouldn’t feel lonely like he had so often felt as a stray on the streets. She slept at the shelter, cuddling Watson and giving him all the affection he deserved.

In the morning, Watson was soon pronounced dead. While this was a tragic and heartbreaking end for the innocent dog, at least he had those final loving moments than Janine provided. She didn’t need to do that, she had no obligation to go beyond her job description, but her love for animals overrode all other feelings.

If you appreciate Janine’s love as much as Watson did, be sure to share this story with your family and friends.
